I have read (and still reading) your very interesting mail exchange
about pro and cons of Perl, Tcl and Python (and sh ?!!?).
I use Python because:
1- I like it.
2- I have to work on heterogeneous network and I do NOT want to write
an application per station type. The use of interpreted libraries
are useful, as far as we keep in mind that the smallest common
sub-set has to be used for each station type.
3- I don't know Perl, but I know a lot about shells and I made some
system-oriented utilities with tk/tcl. The first point which raises
to me IS a programming language. I mean you can use it with your
usual way of programming, it doesn't change your way of doing things.
4- BUT, it is true that I have some tricky code to write in order to
have an efficient glue to the shell, which is our legacy interface to
the user.
And now, I have a request to fire:
- Does anyone have something like a socket module for PC ?
Or anything else which can be use as a python lib for a
communication between a PC and a Unix WS ?
Hey, two special extra questions if you are heterogeneous:
- Is there a Tk for PC ? (Otherwise I will use stdwin)
- Is there a way to freeze a python utility in order to minimize
the required memory ? (Otherwise my PC explodes)
Marcvs [alias Thank you for reading all the mail, and next time, if
I am helpfull enough, I will attach my mail with an
french-english to english-english translator (python lib...)]
