using subproc.py

I'm trying to use gnuplot to display some data, through python, but
failing. I know that it is possible to use gnuplot through pipes,
because octave uses gnuplot in this way.

I am using subproc.py with python-1.1.1 and linux-1.2.4.
It also failed with python-1.2-beta-4.

I haven't tried it under any other OS so I don't know if this is OS
specific or not.

The mkfifo method also failed.

Please help.
