Compiling Python with new Slackware release?

Has anyone managed to successfully compile one of the 1.2 Beta releases
under the latest Slackware release (2.2, with gcc 2.6.3)? I'm having
some problems in the Modules/ subdirectory; makesetup is giving me an
error with sed.
