I think that Obliq, which is built on SRC's Modula-3 Network Objects, is
a very interesting approach, which could be built on top of any CORBA
platform.

We intend to have our Python-ILU bindings out in a week, pending the
integration of the Tk and ILU main loops, so perhaps Python users will
be able to play around a bit with CORBA, and see for themselves. ILU is
a freely available layered CORBA system, with IDL and CORBA support on
top of a native layer that provides various features not available
through CORBA. Shades of Amoeba!
