python wrapper for tk toolkit

Has anyone made a Python wrapper for the tk toolkit, or is
anyone working on one? It is my understanding that the majority of tk
is implemented in straight C with some utility calls into tcl, the
most important one being to a tcl "eval" function. So it doesn't
appear, from a first pass, that divorcing tk from tcl and marrying it
to Python would be *that* hard. ALSO: Can anyone say what they know
about how tightly tk is bound to X, and if it runs on any other
platforms? Thanks,
