My response to what's-his-name about fileobject enhancements contains an
implicit, but less heated, response to you on the utility of lookahead
in file scanning. I've come to the conclusion that it's very good style.
The reason we don't encounter it very often is that there isn't a tradition
of using it outside of the inside of one's own compiler. But python has
some tools and semantics which pushback/readahead fit into very nicely.
