Another tack might be to drop the use of STDWIN, and substitute
something else that's already been ported. SUIT comes to mind, for
example.
A system that might better match Python's perspicuity, though, is
something more like Joel Bartlett's EZD
(ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/DEC/ezd/).
