Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors

September 12, 2012

A regular meeting of the Python Software Foundation ("PSF") Board of Directors was held over Group Conference Call via phone and Internet Relay Chat beginning at 18:00 CEST/ 12:00 EDT, on September 12 2012. Van Lindberg presided over the meeting. Ewa Jodlowska prepared the minutes.

All votes are reported in the form "Y-N-A" (in favor-Y‚opposed-N‚ abstentions-A; e.g. "5-1-2" means "5 in favor, 1 opposed, and 2 abstentions").

1   Attendance

The following members of the Board of Directors (10 of ll) were present at the meeting: Van Lindberg, Marc-Andre Lemburg, David Mertz, Tim Peters, Brian Curtin, Andrew Kuchling, Jessica McKellar, Doug Napoleone, Martin v. Löwis, and Jesse Noller. Also in attendance were Kurt Kaiser (Treasurer) and Ewa Jodlowska (Secretary/Administrator).

2   Minutes of Past Meetings

The 22 August 2012 Board meeting minutes were voted on and approved.

RESOLVED, that we approve the minutes at http://mail.python.org/mailman/private/psf-board/2012-September/019180.html as representing a true and accurate record of the August 22 2012 meeting.

Approved, 10-0-0.

There were no votes taken between meetings.

4   Votes Taken Over Email

There were no votes taken over email.

5   Treasurer Report

Treasurer Reports will only be provided every second PSF Board Meeting of the month.

6   Progress Reports

Progress Reports will only be provided every second PSF Board Meeting of the month.

7   Distinguished Service Award

RESOLVED, that the PSF creates a new award, the "Distinguished Service Award", to be given to members of the Python community who have added significant value to the Python ecosystem. Each recipient will receive an award of USD 5,000.

Approved, 10-0-0.

8   Awarded Distinguished Service Award - John Hunter

RESOLVED, that the PSF awards the PSF Python Distinguished Service Award posthumously to John Hunter for his significant contributions to Python in the numerics field.

Approved, 7-1-2.

9   Community Service Award - Kenneth Gonsalves

RESOLVED, that the PSF awards the PSF Python Community Service Award posthumously to Kenneth Gonsalves for his significant constributions to furthering the use and awareness for Python in India.

Approved, 10-0-0.

10   Community Service Award - Simon Cross

RESOLVED, that the PSF gives a Community Service award to Simon Cross for his code contributions (Genshi and its port to Python 3, among others), for his work with the Cape Town Python Users Group, and his work leading the organization of the first PyCon South Africa.

Approved, 10-0-0.

11   John Hunter Technical Fellowship Sponsorship

RESOLVED, that the PSF sponsors the John Hunter Technical Fellowship which is currently being setup by NumFOCUS with an amount of USD 3,500.

Approved, 10-0-0.

12   Kenneth Gonsalves Memorial Sponsorship

RESOLVED, that the PSF sponsors the Kenneth Gonsalves Memorial setup by the IPSS (Indian Python Software Society) with an amount of USD 3,500.

Approved, 10-0-0.

13.1   Travel Grant Request

The PSF Board has agreed to not provide a Grant Proposal for/by Shah Samarth P.

14   Adjournment

Van Lindberg adjourned the meeting at 19:00 CEST/ 13:00 EDT.
