why don't extensions link dynamically?

One of the main reasons python interested me at first was dynamic
linking support in the core distributio (still being worked on for
tcl'ers).
Why don't the extensions (X11, tkinter, etc) use the feature? I don't
want to link in everything under the sun but I think it would be great
to mix extensions...
