I had a squirmy feeling when I started reading this thread as
well. I am very new to python, and don't know crap about
lambda expressions, but my first impression when I read the
first couple of mails about this was

"oh geez, they can't let it rest and stay nice and simple. it's
the Sun Unix disease - take something nice and simple and add
fancy features until nobody can figure it out and it is a great
raging slow lumbering behemoth"

well, maybe my very first impression was a bit less verbose. anyway,
count my vote AGAINST feeping creaturism (unless this is a simple
harmless change that won't do anything but add two paragraphs in the
reference manual and cause a slowdown of less than one percent in my
garden-variety python programs).
