Well, I too have been buildin X11 - I followed Lance's instructions and got a
working python, but one which didn't have my default PYTHONPATH.

I had to change the Makefile in my build directory to add

-DPYTHONPATH=\"$(PYTHONPATH)\"

to DEFS, after which it worked fine. Did I do something wrong originally? Was
this the right way to fix it?

I would agree with Steven that smoothing out the Motif extensions is one of the
most important areas. Indeed, a good GUI is essential if we are to convert the
many hundreds (thousands?) of Tcl users out there.
