I disagree completely, for reasons stated by others already, as well
as the reality that I have seen people send out annoying re-asked
questions about md5 module & other things on the mailing list.
As a counter example I'd present comp.lang.modula3.. It is a language
with roughly as much popularity & usage as python. The newsgroup gets
a little less traffic than the python mailing list, and most of it is
intelligent discussion, with a couple repetitive questions every few
months or so. It is unmoderated, and functions quite well.
I'd like to see the newsgroup (if it is made, which i dont expect to
happen) to be unmoderated. Compread to mail, it is trivial to
skip/kill posts. You also dont have to worry about the moderator going
on vacation, being sick, or otherwise not 'doing his job.'
Lastly... I hope that the mailing list WONT receive much traffic after
a group is created. I dont think it would benefit anyone to keep a
number of topics away from the net, where other people could become
interested and add their worth.
Of course.. I read alt groups.
